The
11 members of the Year 8 Expedition Club headed for Dartmoor early on Saturday
morning and enjoyed two days walking on the moor. Heavy rain over the last week
meant that the moor was very wet and most streams were uncrossable but the rain
mainly held off during the two walks and the cloud parted often enough to allow
for some good views. The group stayed in a bunkhouse on the site of a Victorian
gunpowder factory in the middle of the moor which was atmospheric and
comfortable, with a wood burning stove to keep everyone warm. The pupils helped
with the cooking, supper was a chicken curry and a full cooked breakfast was
enjoyed by all in the morning. The pupils were excellent company throughout and
coped very well with the boggy conditions underfoot.
